Baldur's Gate 3 Find Your Belongings

Sometimes I'll pick a lock on my first endeavor, but at other times I'll neglect to pick the same lock over and once more till I'thousand out of tools; it seems fairly random. Always salve earlier attempting to pick a lock then y'all don't waist thieves tools.

Cheers, and so one does non have to exist a thief to option locks?

I don't think you lot demand to be a rogue to choice locks, you just demand to have thieves tools in the inventory of the character y'all're trying to selection locks with. I call up certain stats and feats improve your lockpicking (sleight of paw perhaps?), but I'g really non 100% sure how lockpicking works.

Sleight of Hand does nothing for lock picking. In 5e Open up lock is straight dex roll. Add together your proficiency bonus if yous are proficient and have thieves tools. I have no idea how they calculate it in BG3.

I think in BG3 sleight of hand is interchangeable with thieves tools proficiency. If you create a ranger you will notice urban tracker gives proficiency in thieves tools and what shows upwardly is sleight of hand proficiency.

I am pretty certain lockpicking is cleaved though. Every time I fail an endeavour, every roll afterwards that fails to the point where if I fail I just go for bashing the lock open.

No, That has never been rogue a thing in D&D for whatever edition. In 5e rogues naturally have proficiency with thieves' tools and everyone has to become it by either a groundwork, skilled feat, or in game training that your DM lets you railroad train in.

RAW sleight of hand does not help with thieves' tools at all. That is simply a homebrew thing that nearly DM'due south apply and is implemented in BG3.

Even with skillful stats and SoH, y'all tin can fail to pick something. It tin can exist rare, simply information technology can happen. And if a character fails the attempt, you aren't going to make it work with that character after that, you'll but waste your tools. Recall of information technology similar the skill check is checking if the character is capable enough to get through the lock, if they tin't, then they just don't know how to practice it and volition suspension all their lockpicks trying to do information technology if they don't know.
